Oh I was such a consumer-driven kid back then. Look at the shirt: McDonald's.
This was taken in the late 80s. Rainbow brite was a pre-schooler icon back then. The animated series was regularly shown on local tv, probably mornings, and as during those years I was a little kept girl under her young mother's paranoia, (ie, always home) I developed a fascination with the the character and the show.
I remember the show very vaguely though. It must be something about Rainbow Brite and a group of kids of different colors, literally, trying to save the world from evil in the form of antagonists trying to take color (again, literally) from the kingdom they lived in.
I forgot what the name of the blue fluffy pet. That's a shame, because a lot of times, I pretended I was Rainbow Brite and carried him around. I also had this Rainbow brite "suitcase" which I lugged around the house and in school (kindergarten) imitating my dad carrying his briefcase. So what happened to these precious items of my childhood? I think they were given away when I grew out of the phase and moved on to Garfield. Which is another story.
What brought this to mind was an article I found about re-launching of the line of toys. Probably the target market is us nostalgic bratty girls of the 80s.

i used to watch this too. i think rainbow brite's fluffy pet was named "sprite", but he was white from what i remember (check the pic).
anyway, my favorite character is lurky. he's the big brown sidekick of murky dismal. he is by far the cutest character in the show.
